Meghan McCain and Donald Trump will certainly not be spending Thanksgiving together; there is a possibility that she might not even vote for the current leader of her political party.
For the past few months, there has been a mini-war raging between Miss McCain and the real estate mogul. Trump, who insulted women, immigrants, reporters, Ted Cruz‘s wife, and Muslims also took an unnecessary shot at Senator John McCain, who is a war hero in the eyes of the nation.
In July of 2015, Mr. Trump appeared at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa, where he said the following about the Arizona politician:
“He’s not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”
Here is a brief bio of McCain:
“McCain followed his father and grandfather, both four-star admirals, into the United States Navy, graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1958. He became a naval aviator, flying ground-attack aircraft from aircraft carriers. During the Vietnam War, he was almost killed in the 1967 USS Forrestal fire. In 1967, while on a bombing mission over Hanoi, he was shot down, seriously injured, and captured by the North Vietnamese. He was a prisoner of war until 1973. McCain experienced episodes of torture, and refused an out-of-sequence early repatriation offer. His war wounds left him with lifelong physical limitations.”
While many politicians and supporters of Trump called on him to apologize, he never did. Meghan McCain, who is a columnist, author, and FOX News Channel host, has stated on numerous occasions that she will never vote for Trump unless he apologizes to her father.
For the past few days, Mr. Trump has been going back and forth with Khizr and Ghazala Khan, the parents of Humayun Khan, a fallen soldier and hero.
U.S. Army Capt. Humayun Khan, who dreamed of being a lawyer and worked with disabled children, was killed in Iraq in 2004. Khizr Khan spoke at the Democratic convention on Thursday where he slammed Trump’s rhetoric on Muslims and immigrants. More about the Pakistani-American Muslim soldier:
“Three to four months into his tour of duty in Iraq, on June 8 near Baqubah, Khan was inspecting a guard post when a suspicious taxicab began approaching too quickly. Ordering his subordinates away from the vehicle, Khan ran forward 10–15 steps and was killed by a suicide car bomb fitted with an improvised explosive device. The car detonated before it could reach the gates or the nearby mess hall where hundreds of soldiers were eating breakfast. The blast also killed the two occupants of the vehicle and two Iraqi bystanders.”
Many Americans are outraged by the fact that Trump has been questioning a gold star family, and among those is McCain, who tweeted:
“I would ask what kind of barbarian would attack the parents of a fallen soldier, but oh yeah it’s the same person who attacks POW’s.”
The tweet has gone viral and more than 19,000 people have reacted to it, and a majority of them are applauding her for standing up to Trump while few are wondering, why is she still a member of the Republican Party?
I would ask what kind of barbarian would attack the parents of a fallen soldier, but oh yeah it's the same person who attacks POW's.
